Obituary of Buford Clayton Cregger, Jr.
MARION, Va.
Buford “Clayton” Cregger, Jr., age 56, passed away Friday, December 7, 2018.
He was born on December 12, 1961 in Marion, Va. to Judy Cornette Cregger and the late Buford Clayton Cregger, Sr. Clayton was a lover of sports; he was especially fond of Tennessee football and Kentucky basketball. He had a wide circle of close friends; whose children became like his own, and especially loved his nephews. He never missed an opportunity to be present for birthday parties or Christmas plays, if they were in it. He thoroughly enjoyed afternoons with them at Mimi’s following preschool. Clayton cherished arguing sports and politics over lunch with his Wytheville Lunch Crew, as well as the guys at the local Marion McDonalds, and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He never met a stranger! Clayton’s advocacy for the Virginia State Police, and fondness for law enforcement in general, was certainly an important aspect of his character. Clayton was loved by many and will be missed!
Clayton is survived by his mother, Judy Cornette Cregger; brother, Brian Cregger and wife, Brandi; grandmother, Joyce Cornette; nephews, Isaiah and Josef Cregger, all of Marion, Va.; aunt, Becky Catron; and cousin, Chris Catron, both of Rural Retreat, Va.
Memorial services to honor Clayton’s life will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend David Woody and Pastor Mike Sage officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 until 4 p.m. and 5 p.m until the time of the service at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Virginia State Police Association, c/o The Teddy Bear Program; 6944 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, Va. 23225.
