Leroy,
Adam and I only just this moment found out that you're gone. We've been texting you and sending you Christmas cards for years, trying to figure out why we lost touch. We figured you'd moved away with the Forest Service again on one of your seasonal positions and that we just never had a good address for you anymore. Never occurred to us that you were actually gone. We're shocked and saddened. Adam will reach out to Susan to let her know. The three of you were the motley crew back in Iraq, and I so enjoyed getting to know the two friends who kept Adam company during that deployment. Adam said your jogging regiment is what kept him in such good shape during his time in the war. I think you made him run around the base with you almost every night, and you guys played volleyball when it wasn't too hot. Such nice memories. You have meant a lot to us over these many years, and now that we live back in Virginia, Adam often references the weekend he spent with you on the farm...milking cows and hiking the land. Your lifestyle and perspective made a big impression on my city boy. Geez, man, our hearts are just broken right now, realizing that we've had it wrong all these years. I wish we had known, so perhaps we could have said a proper good-bye to you.
If you're anywhere and can see this, please know that you meant a lot to us and we will miss you as long as we live. You were a good friend, a funny guy, and a good compatriot to my guy.
Rest in peace, friend.
Lauren & Adam

I thought of Leroy today and looked him up this morning. I was saddened to see his obituary come up. I went through bootcamp with him and was stationed with him during our first school near Chicago. He was my best friend during that time. We would go to the gym daily to work out. He was so physically fit. We kept in touch for a while but as life happens we all begin to live our own lives. My sympathy is with your family as I am sure you miss him. He was a great friend to me and I am sorry we didn't stay in touch since we settled not too far from each other (eastern panhandle of WV). God bless Leroy and your family.

I worked closely with Leroy in Colorado for 6 years. He was one of the funniest, sweetest guys I’ve known. We worked 12 hour shifts at night and he used to give me a hard time about having been in the Air Force and I would make fun of his Navy. The Navy stories he would tell! Leroy is my friend and when we meet again he will be standing with Jesus, probably cracking jokes. Until we meet again my friend, you will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear of the death of Leroy. I never had the good luck to meet him in person, but we had a few communications over email regarding college programs for counselors. It was clear to me that he was a kind, gentle man who sincerely wanted to give of himself to help other people, especially young people, and I'm sure there are many lives he has touched in his lifetime. It seems so sad to me that he didn't have what I would consider a long life.

Leroy and I served on the USS Truxtun in the mid 80s. We were blessed with a 30 year friendship. He had a wonderful heart. He was the best of a gentleman. He was a great sailor and man of his word. We hunted together and rode horses in Durango CO several times. We shared a passion of photography, he was very talented at many things and had a good eye with his photography. The world lost a good man 03NOV2018! He is missed and will always be in my thoughts.

Rebecca, if you see this, can you e-mail me at laurenabailey12@gmail.com. My husband and Leroy served together and we were good friends with him. We never knew why we fell out of touch with Leroy and only today have we discovered his passing. It seems as though you and Leroy were close, so I'm just hoping for more answers as to what happened to our friend. Apologies if this is painful for you. I don't mean to cause pain.

I met Leroy through my step daughter Krista. He was so kind and caring. He went with John and I to So Dakota deer hunting several times. My mother loved visiting with Leroy. He wrote post cards to her all the time. They loved to tease each other. I know they are both with our Heavenly Father and probably teasing each other. He will be so missed. My prayers go out to all of you. Carol Alberts

Hello Elaine, Dee Dee, Tammy, Sherry, Jerry, and Wayne,
It's kind of hard to pick out just one memory, but I have one of when we were really young, Aunt Jean, Maw Claira, and Aunt Judy all came in and of course the first thing us kids hollered was to go swimming up in the bottom!! So we all packed up and up the road we went and somehow me and Roy wound up being the last two to get in the creek. Now it around the end of June and I thought it was warm but when Roy jumped in he hollered "Oh Lord it's frazzled my pistol!!" Aunt Jean yelled at him and told him to watch his mouth and about that time Sherry looked up and Said " Mom what Roy talking about he ain't gots no gun!!!! Everybody cracked up but now Sherry wasn't but maybe 4 or 5 years old if that!!! I thought Aunt Jean was gonna hang Roy!! It was so funny!!! He said he wasn't getting out of the water till mom gets over bein mad!! He was always so sweet and nice to everybody
We all love him very much always have and always will.
I love you all,
Marilyn
