Obituary of Huguette "Ann" Raber
MARION, Va.
Huguette “Ann” Raber, age 84, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018 at Francis Marion Manor, Marion, Va.
Ann had a heart of gold and was a very proud American. She loved to tell the story of how she met an American Air Force Soldier and she literally could not tell him no. When Ann first came to the U.S. she could not read, write or speak English. She taught herself how to do all of these by learning from daily interactions with others. Becoming an American Citizen was one of the happiest moments of Ann’s life. She never met a stranger, and always found the good in everyone. Ann was fluent in four languages, French, German, Alsatian and English. She loved to play Bingo and eat her dark chocolate. Ann loved everyone, especially her family; she was so proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Raber; and granddaughter, Michelle Raber Price.
Ann is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Raber Johnson and husband, Michael; one son, James E. Raber and Alexis R. Meadows, all of Marion, Va.; two sisters, Marthe Sauer and Odile Bluntzer, both of Strasbourg, France; four grandchildren, Dalton Snider and wife, Chelsey, Emily Raber, Brooklyn Raber and Zac Blevins; four great-grandchildren; special friend she loved like a daughter, Patty Wolfe Spencer; and many great friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Jerry Eggers and Pastor Otis Barker officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat, Va. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
