Obituary of Evangeline "Porkey" Cox

MARION, Va.

Evangeline "Porkey" Cox, age 71, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018 at her home in Marion, Va.

Born May 7, 1947 in Smyth County, Va. to the late Malcolm Bruce and Pauline Sheffey Anderson, Evangeline was a very special lady! She was beautiful inside and out. She loved her family very much and was very family oriented. She loved to cook and enjoyed the company she cooked for. Her rolls were her specialty. Evangeline loved the Lord and was a former member of First Baptist Church of Marion under the leadership of the late Reverend Andrew Arnold. She thoroughly enjoyed all types of music with R&B and gospel being among her favorites. Above all, Evangeline will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, and friend to all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mason Edward Cox; grandson, Dorian Cox; sister, Anita Stovall; and brother, Anthony Anderson.

Evangeline is survived by three sons, Brock Hale and Corina of Glade Spring, Va., Steve Hale and wife, Rhonda of Atkins, Va., and Vincent Cox of Marion, Va.; two daughters, LaNita Cox of Covington, Va. and Yolanda Cox of Marion, Va.; five sisters, Mary Anderson of Bristol, Va., Donna Anderson of Marion, Va., Deborah Calloway and husband, William of Roanoke, Va., Regina Roberts and special brother-in-law, Terry Whitten, and Karen Anderson all of Marion, Va.; brother, Keith Todd Anderson of Marion, Va.; special cousin, Richard Sheffey; special brother-in-law, Rainey Cox; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Robert and Tish and Larry and Porkey Rouse.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Dwayne Mabry and Pastor Mike Sage. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
