Obituary of Billie Greer
LEBANON, VIRGINIA: BILLIE GORDON GREER, age 83, passed from this life Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at his residence with his family surrounded by a band of angels. Bill was the son of the late Marcus McKinley Greer and Bertha Sowards Greer, born August 3, 1921 in Myra, Kentucky in Pike County and was of the Christian Faith. He was a retired coal miner and operator, having been working in the coal industry for forty-six years. He enjoyed working in the garden and watching it grow and produce. Bill was often asked when would be the best time to start a garden and when to put out crops. He always planted using the signs on the calendar. He was a very caring and wise man. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Louise Wright, Bonnie Jean Hale, Mildred Jean Johnson, Orchid Gayle Collins, one brother, Guy Jerome Greer, and one grandson, Jake Bledsoe. He leaves behind his precious wife and companion, Margaret. Four daughters, Loretta (Bill) Bledsoe of Norton, Virginia; Billie (Thomas) Miller of Smyrna, Tennessee; Bonnie (Howard) Finney of Lebanon, Virginia; and Brenda (Frank) McClanahan of Elk Garden, Virginia. Two sons, Robert Earl (Linda) Greer of Grundy, Virginia, and Roger Allen of Frenchburg, Kentucky. Two sisters, Audrey (Jesse) Johnson of Gladwin, Michigan, and Hazel June Newsome of Frankfort, Kentucky. Four brothers, Charles Hubert Greer of Dayton, Ohio; Marcus McKinley (Jayne) Greer, Jr., of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Joseph Morris (Irene) Greer of Shelbyville, Tennessee; and Glenn Allen (Sue) Greer of Bellville, Michigan. Five granddaughters, Bridgett Shortridge of Lebanon, Virginia; Melissa McClanahan Phillips of St. Paul, Virginia; Karen (Greg) Allen of Ringgold, Georgia; Allison McClanahan and Traci McClanahan both of Elk Garden, Virginia. Three grandsons, Robert Todd (Leda) Greer of Louisville, Kentucky; Steven Miller of Smyrna, Tennessee; and Eric Allen of Frenchburg, Kentucky. Four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Braden, Dalton, and Hayden. Two special loved ones, Lois and Sara Stacy, and a special caregiver, Annette Hughes also survives. Funeral Services will held Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Lebanon Baptist Church, Lebanon, Virginia, with Rev. Jack Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Roger Shelton, Jack Ward, Cecil McClanahan, Jr., Matt Ray, Jason Sparks, and Roger Lester. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Lebanon Baptist Church.
