Obituary of Carolyn Campbell
RICH VALLEY VIRGINIA: CAROLYN GWYN CAMPBELL devoted wife and loving mother passed away June 19th 2005. Born May 7th 1929, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Ivy Travis Gwyn of Chatham Hill Virginia
After graduating from Johnston Willis School of Nursing and having the last of her six children enter school, she spent more than thirty years at Smyth County Hospital working in various capacities as an R.N. Since the one passion in her life was children, she started in Pediatrics. She was a member of the Rich Valley Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her brother Rush Crockett Gwyn III.
She is survived by her husband of fifty- three years Charles M. Campbell. All but one of these years was spent together in Rich Valley Virginia. Also surviving are three sons and daughters in-law; Tom and Kim Ratliff Campbell, Chilhowie Virginia, Jim and Jane Leonard Campbell, Montvale Virginia, Eddie and Janet Gross Campbell, Montvale Virginia. Three daughters and sons in-law; Cathy and Steve Parker, Roanoke Virginia, Nancy and Terry Hawthorne, Chilhowie Virginia, and Sarah and Sam Cassell, Abingdon Virginia. One sister, Madeline Pearson, Roanoke Virginia. She was affectionately known as "Gran" to fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Tommy and Wife Kimberly Campbell, Limestone Tennessee, James and Jonathan Campbell, Montvale Virginia, Joseph and Justin Campbell, Montvale Virginia, Dustin, Logan and Emily Parker, Roanoke Virginia, Sarah Catherine and Stephen Hawthorne, Chilhowie Virginia, Ashley and Laura Crabtree, Brandon and Trevor Cassell, all of Abingdon Virginia and great grandchild Josh Gaddis, Limestone Tennessee. Other survivors include; sister in-law June Gwyn, Wyomissing Pennsylvania, brother in-law Harold and wife Imogene Campbell, Marion Virginia, sisters in-law Katherine Monroe, Knoxville, Tennessee, Mary "Buzz" Campbell, Chilhowie, Virginia, Mary Frances Campbell and Jolene Campbell both of Marion Virginia, Imogene Campbell, Glade Spring Virginia and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 22, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Rich Valley Presbyterian Church with Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Campbell's body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends Tuesday June 21, 2005 from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. at the Seaver-Brown Funeral Service Chapel, Marion Virginia.
