Obituary of Michael "Mike" Hester

MARION, Va. Michael "Mike" Hester, age 65, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Smyth County Community Hospital. Mike Hester was a giving and loving man. He loved his God and his family. Some may say that Mike lived alone, but his home and his heart was full of love for and from his dogs. He enjoyed his Bible and book reading; and gave much of his time leading Bible study at his church, Ebenezer Lutheran, where he was a life-long member. He was active in his community and loved his library and being involved. Mike and his walking buddies will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and BeEtta Hester. Mike is survived by his sister, Karen Bear and husband, Billy of Rural Retreat, Va.; special nephews, Ronald Puckett and wife, Tina, Heath Puckett and wife, Victoria, all of Birmingham, Ala. And Travis Puckett and wife, Diana of Rural Retreat, Va.; special great-niece, Alex Brooks and husband, Tyler of Blountsville, Ala.; special cousin, Marilyn Hester of Marion, Va.; several other nieces, nephews, and many friends; and his dogs, Edna, Boots, Lily and Cookie. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church with Pastor Andrew Bansemer officiating. The family will receive friends in a Celebration of Mike's life with food and fellowship following the service.
