Obituary of Pauline F. "Polly" Carlton
Marion, Va.
Pauline F. “Polly” Carlton, age 94, died Monday, July 16, 2018 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Va.
Polly was a native of South Carolina and had resided in Marion since 1964. She was a graduate of The McLeod Infirmary School of Nursing in Florence, S.C. and had actively worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 55 years in different locations, including 21 ½ years in Smyth County Dialysis Center. In more recent years, she was employed part-time by Smyth County Community Hospital Homecare. Polly was a member of the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder and former Deacon. She was also active in the Sunday School and Women of the Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, D. Ray Carlton; her parents, Henry Clyde and Margaret Emily Jones Faulkenberry; five brothers; and one sister.
Polly is survived by three daughters, Carol C. Eggleston of Rotonda, Fla., Nancy C. Stephens and husband, Ken of Lebanon, Tenn., and Linda C. Pennington and husband, Wayne of Marion, Va.; two sons, Ronald R. Carlton and wife, Sharon of Lutz, Fla., and Larry A. Carlton and wife, Trish of Abingdon, Va.; one step-son, Arthur L. Carlton of O’Brien, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Tina Carrico of Bristol, Va., Amy Kennedy and husband, Jim of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Michael Pennington and wife, Amanda of Abingdon, Va. and Lori Carlton of Abingdon, Va., Kathy Chauffe and husband, Andy of Clarksville, Ark., Cindy Blades and husband, Stan of Watertown, Tenn., Jennifer Metroka and husband Mike of Tampa, Fla. and Rebecca Pittman and husband, Jeremy of Orlando, Fla., Ryan Carlton of Spring Hill, Tenn.; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Faulkenberry of Heath Springs, S.C., Jeanette Faulkenberry of Belmont, N.C., and Leta Faulkenberry of Burlington, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Royal Oak Presbyterian Church with Pastor Alan Gray and Pastor Steve Cathcart officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
Pallbearers will be the Elders of the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church.
