Obituary of Chris Arthur Wingate
SUGAR GROVE, Va.
Chris Arthur Wingate, age 60, passed away at his home, Monday, July 2, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 21, 1958 in Wytheville, Va. to the late Carl L. and Mattie V. Wingate. Chris was a fishing enthusiast and collector of coins and rocks. He enjoyed his adventures using his metal detector to add to his collections. He was an electronic technician who took joy and pride in fixing things for his employers at Virginia Tech and Radio Shack. But music was his passion – he loved to play guitar, both bass and lead. Above all, Chris was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to anyone who met him. He absolutely adored his grandkids. He will be missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Ray Wingate; and nephew, Adam B. Williams.
Chris is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ella R. Wingate; daughter, Ashley W. Hall and husband, Aaron; grandchildren, Kylie P. Hall, Andrew S. Hall, Calvin A. Hall and Stephen M. Hall, all of Sugar Grove, Va.; sister, Karen W. Williams and husband, JimBob of Johnson City, Tenn.; brother, Dennis L. Wingate and wife, Sherry of Bluefield, Va.; sister-in-law, Betty Wingate of Blacksburg, Va.; nieces, Sheri Hawthorne and Lindsey Iglesias; nephew, Jeff Wingate; and special friends, Mike Lindsey, Stanley Smith, and Kevin Martin.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 6, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Mr. Blake Frazier officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 p.m. until the time of service.
