Obituary of Jerry Lynn Greer, Jr.

BRISTOL, VIRGINIA: JERRY LYNN GREER, JR., 38, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn.

Jerry was born on September 9, 1979 in Quarryville, PA to Jerry Lynn Greer, Sr. and the late Yolanda Presnell. He graduated from Solanco High School in Quarryville, PA in 1998. Following High School, Jerry made the decision to enlist as an Airman in the U.S. Airforce where he would become a munitions specialist and achieve the rank of Technical Sergeant (TSgt). His career in the Air Force was certainly one that was considered to be dangerous, as he was tasked with handling, storing, transporting, arming, and disarming non-nuclear munitions. The Munitions Systems career field is often referred to by airmen as "AMMO". He spent a total of 14 plus years serving his country where he had the opportunity to travel and see the world, including serving in Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, before being honorably discharged in 2012.

Upon the conclusion of his military career, Jerry enrolled for two years at Virginia Highlands Community College, followed by a year at King University in Bristol. He founded and became president of the Student Veterans Association at VHCC and became president of the association at King.

With passionate regard for his military career, as well as a sincere respect for veterans of all branches of service, Jerry continued to serve past his enlistment as former Commander of the Saltville VFW Post #7238, current Commander of Bristol Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post #6975, and was recently elected as VFW District Commander.
