Obituary of Mark Wayne Smith

MARION, Va.

Mark Wayne Smith, age 55, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.

He was born June 29, 1962 in Hedgesville, W. Va. to the late Willard William and Luella Landis Smith. Mark was an extremely hard worker, and was employed by General Shale Brick Yard from 1982 until its closing in 2016. His family considered him to be OCD because everything had to be “just right”. He loved boxing and football, especially his number one team, the Miami Dolphins. Mark adored his granddaughter Cheyanne and loved spending his time with her. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all he knew; and he will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Ella Smith; brother, Daniel “Duck” Smith; brother-in-law, Donnie Smith; and grandson, Austin Cooper.

Mark is survived by his wife, Mary Smith; son, Brandon Smith; daughter, Sara Cooper all of Marion, Va.; sisters, Patty Butts and husband, Gary, Linda Ambrose and husband, Earl all of Hedgesville, W.Va.; Hope Smith of Marion, Va., and Shannon Owens of Ga.; brothers, William Smith and wife, Kay and David Smith and wife, Brenda all of Hedgesville, W.Va.; granddaughter, Cheyanne Cooper; sisters-in-law, Ellen Perkins and friend, James Woods, and Loretta Ellis and husband, Rex all of Marion, Va.; and several nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Duane Garnichaud officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Groseclose, Va. The family will receive friends Monday, May 14, 2018 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
