Obituary of Doctor Brown Odham
MARION, Va.
Doctor Brown "Doc" Odham, age 82 passed away Monday, March 5, 2018 at Johnson City Medical Center.
Doc was born May 12, 1935 in Smyth County, Va. to the late Alvin Richard and Susie Stevenson Odham. He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army, who honorably served his country during World War II. Doc was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 31 AF & AM for 50 years, Francis Marion VFW Post #4667, and the American Legion Post #18. He stayed very active as an unpaid Walmart greeter whom kids loved, a collector of most everything and he loved to walk. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His grandchildren were the light of his life. Doc will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Virginia Carol Reedy Odham; two sisters, Linda DeHart and Betty Odham; and his beloved walking companion, his dog Tyson.
Doc is survived by four daughters, Carolyn S. Odham of Marion, Va., Claudette Yonts and husband, Fred of Groseclose, Va., Kim Huffman and husband, Eric, and Cindy Newman and husband, Jack, all of Marion, Va.; sister, Arlene Shanks and husband, John of Jonesborough, Tenn.; brothers, Richard Odum and wife, Alene of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., John Everett Odum of Eufaula, Ala., and Raymond Odham of Henderson, Nev.; grandchildren, Michael Odham and fiancée, Kim Coe of Louisville, Ky., Morgan Short and husband, Mike of Roanoke, Va., Megan Hartsell and fiancé, Charlie Norris of Knoxville, Tenn., Dakota Huffman, Sabrina Huffman, and Ariel Huffman, all of Marion, Va.; step-grandchildren, Candace Osborne of Bristol, Tenn., Jordan Yonts of Sugar Grove, Va., and Chris Anderson of Roanoke, Va.; great-grandchildren, Aydin, Kobi and Patrick; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special cousin, Nancy Anders; and numerous in-laws.
Special thanks to the staff of Johnson City Medical Center and Johnston Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care; and to Richardson's Ambulance Service.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Reverend Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Hill Cemetery, Troutdale, Va. with Military Rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
