Obituary of Carolyn Hester Pennington

MARION, Va.

Carolyn Hester Pennington, age 61, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Smyth County Community Hospital.

Carolyn was born June 6, 1956 in Smyth County, Va. She loved her Lord, her family and especially her grandkids, they were her world. She was a beloved substitute teacher in the Smyth County school system, and she loved all of "her kids." Carolyn enjoyed eating, reading, listening to country music (especially Alan Jackson), and watching football. She was one of the Marion Scarlett Hurricanes most faithful fans. She loved her special kitties and being outdoors.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Hester; grandparents, William and Nannie Sheets, and Carl and Kate Hester.

Carolyn is survived by her three children, Wayne Pennington and wife, Jennifer of Buffalo Junction, Va., Farrah Vaughn, and T.J. Pennington; mother, Betty Sheets Childers, all of Marion, Va.; brother, Michael Anthony Hester and wife, Ann of Newnan, Ga.; significant other for over 20 years, Terry Darnell, of Marion, Va.; four grandchildren, Kelsey Pennington, Alexis Vaughn, Savannah Vaughn, and Jordan Vaughn; niece, Katie Hester; nephew, Nathan Hester and wife, Haley; best friend, Pam Johnson; several cousins; many special friends and beloved students.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 2, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Ron Gilbert officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 12 noon at Rose Lawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
