Obituary of Harry Lee Duncan
ABINGDON, Va.
Harry Lee Duncan, age 86, formerly of Atkins, Va., died Monday, November 27, 2017 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was born December 1, 1930 in Draper, Va. to the late Edd and Flossie Duncan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, and seven brothers.
Harry served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He continued to serve and protect others during his 31 years of faithful service retiring as a Lieutenant with the Virginia State Police. Harry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.
Harry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Imogene Catron Duncan of Abingdon, Va.; daughters, Brenda Varney and husband, Joe of Abingdon, Va., Cathy Wofford and husband, Mack of Newnan, Ga., and Leigh Mitchell of Aylett, Va.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 1, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Mr. Joe Varney officiating and Military Rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. A private inurnment service will be held at Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
