Obituary of Robert F. Lawrence
Marion, Va.
Robert F. (Bob) Lawrence, age 86, of Bluff City, Tenn.; formerly of Marion, Va., died Friday, October 20, 2017 in Johnson City, Tenn.
He was born December 7, 1930 in Saltville Va. to the late Bolden Perkins Lawrence and Fannie Lorene Debord Lawrence.
Bob retired from the United States Navy in the late 1960's after 20 years of dedicated service to our country. He then began a second career, distinguishing himself as a leader in Medical Materials Management for both Smyth County Community Hospital and later, Bluefield Regional Medical Center, WV before his final retirement in the mid-1990's. He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and member of Grace United Methodist Church, Marion, VA. He was also a faithful friend to many others, including hospital colleagues and the congregation at the First Church of God, Rich Valley, VA.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Edna Caroline (Carol) Gardner Lawrence; son, Glenn Wade Lawrence; brother, Donald Wayne Lawrence; two sisters, Margie Lorene Byrd and Shirley JoAnne Bartley.
Bob is survived by sons, Michael Wayne Lawrence (Elizabeth) of Norfolk, VA; Steven Ray Lawrence (Lisa) of Bluff City, TN; sister, Barbara Sue Mumpower of Abingdon, VA; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Seaver-Brown Chapel, Marion, on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 5 p.m. until funeral services begin at 7 p.m. with Pastor Emmit Wilson officiating. A graveside service will follow on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, 11 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion.
