Obituary of Roger Lee Ashley

WHITETOP, Va.

Roger Lee Ashley, Sr. age 64, died Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Va.

He was born November 23, 1952 in Abingdon, Va. to Janet Hayes Ashley and the late Wilton Henry Ashley. Roger was a big joker, he loved to pull one over on you. He was a dedicated employee of W & L Construction for 19 years. He loved to play poker and bingo but above all he was a loving father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Ashley.

Roger is survived by his sons, Chris Ashley and wife Diana, Roger Lee Ashley, Jr. and wife, Tommie, and Derek Ashley, all of Marion, Va.; mother, Janet Hayes Ashley; sister, Lisa Ashley, both of Abingdon, Va.; brothers, Tommy Ashley and wife, Brenda of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Ronnie Ashley of Abingdon, Va.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Mike Sage officiating. Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Blevins Cemetery in Whitetop, Va. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. until the time of service at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

Directions to Cemetery

From junction of Highlands Pkwy (US Hwy 58) & Whitetop Gap Rd (Rt 726), go southwest 0.8 mile on Whitetop Gap Rd to dirt road on right. Turn right and go approximately 700 feet to cemetery on right side of road.
