Obituary of Barbara Wallis Wright
Essex, Md.
Barbara “Mickey” Wallis Wright, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on November 15, 2016 in Essex, Md., due to complications with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was 86 years old and leave a legacy of three children and their spouses, Vivian & Bob Hochrien, Helen & Bruce Davies, and James & Debbie Wright, five grandchildren, Kristin & Andrew Jazwiecki, Jason Hochrein, Lindsey Wright, James Wright, Jr., Jacob Wright, and one great-grandson, Owen Jazwiecki.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherwood Grayson Wright.
Born in Heston, Hounslow, England on September 13, 1930, daughter of James Wallis and Gladys Bristow. As a child and teenager, she survived the bombings and hardships of World War II. After attending Spring Grove Grammar School in Isleworth, England, she worked as an accounting clerk for Otis Elevator. Barbara married Sherwood Grayson Wright on August 2, 1955 in Middlesex, England and immigrated to the United States on November 13, 1955 to Marion, Va. In 1957, she moved her family to Baltimore, Md.
Barbara loved her family and friends and had a spirit that could light up a room. Barbara knew her neighbors and cared deeply for them. Birthdays, and holidays (especially British holidays & traditions) were events always celebrated by Barbara. She enjoyed being at the water, no matter if it was ocean, lake or stream; she always had to dip her feet. Mickey was her nickname because of her large beautiful dark brown eyes similar to Mickey Mouse. Her spirit, humor and love for life brightened the lives of those who knew Barbara. She could always be counted on to make guests feel welcome over a cup of tea.
She is survived by two sisters, Alma Wallis Woodason of England and June Wallis Ingram-Seal of New Zealand and one brother John Wallis of New Zealand, and one sister-in-law, Joy Wright Bossmann of Dayton Ohio. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at Riverview Nursing Home in Essex, Md. for the wonderful care of Barbara.
A graveside service will be held, Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Slemp Cemetery, Sugar Grove, Va.
