Obituary of William Roy Harris

CERES, Va. William Roy Harris, age 77, died Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va. Roy was born January 3, 1940 in Smyth County to the late Joe and Katherine Farmer Harris. He was a good and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved farming and being outdoors. Roy never met a stranger. He was friendly and liked by everyone who knew him. Roy will be missed by so many. He is survived by his wife, Goldie G. Harris of Ceres, Va.; daughters, Juanita Shields and husband, Roger, and Charlotte Fortune and husband, William, all of Marion, Va.; grandchildren, Denise Pickett and husband, David, Ryan Shields and wife, Ginny, Ben Cregger and fiancée, Kelly Dunavan, Hunter Shields and special friend, Leslie Dominguez; sisters, Dorothy Lamie of Saltville, Va., Ruth Sult of Asheville, N.C., Rosie Testerman, and Elizabeth Horne, both of Atkins, Va.; brothers, Edward Harris, Joe Harris, and Jeff Harris, all of Saltville, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Darrell Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Community Cemetery, Ceres, Va.
