Calvin and Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Our family was privileged to know Shirley as my husband, Danny's, colleague at West Salem Elementary and as our daughter, Lauren's, teacher. Shirley was an extraordinary person and teacher. We were so grateful that Lauren had the opportunity to be in the classroom of such a dedicated teacher. Even though it was 25 years ago, I still remember the love of learning that Lauren realized in Shirley's class.Lauren spoke of her with such love. As a colleague, Danny spoke of her with much admiration. As a parent, I am grateful for the interest and care given to our child. May you find peace in warm memories.

Dear Calvin and loved ones of Shirley,
I had the honor of meeting Shirley twelve years ago when she taught my daughter in 4th grade (VA Studies). I also was a colleague of Shirley's. Then a couple years later, she taught my son. Her patience was amazing! Our whole family loved and respected Shirley and are saddened by her passing. Her love and dedication to the children in her care was instantly evident to anyone who would encounter her. We send our heartfelt sympathy and prayers to you. The Gauck family (Dwayne, Tarri, Megan, and Matthew)

Although I am sad, I know that my Aunt Tiny is now home with God. I have so many memories of my Aunt but most of all her spirit and unwavering love for her family and friends. I am proud to have known such an amazing woman, a warrior and survivor. The love that she and Uncle Calvin had was my inspiration and I can only hope that God will send me such a love. I know that she is in Heaven watching over us, she will always be in my heart. My prayers and thoughts are with Uncle Calvin, her family and friends.
God will stand beside you and wrap his loving arms around you to give you comfort. He promises to get you through these times so lean on him and trust him to get you through this most difficult time.
My Love,
Cathy Rutkowski

Hello Calvin: Sorry for your loss! Shirley isn't suffering any more, and is in a place where she is well and happy again, and just waiting for you to join her. Praise the Lord that we have Jesus to have given us access to heaven, and the hope while we are still here on this earth that something better awaits us! Losing Shirley has to be really hard, but remember that all of us who are still here are still your friends, and you are not alone. In Christ, Richard.

It is great sadness and a heavy heart that I feel with the passing of my Aunt Tiny. She was the most courageous, strong and inspiring woman I know. Never giving up hope she was a fighter to the end against a very ugly disease. Even though we were unable to talk much over the past year, I will truly miss our conversations. The great advice she would give me, talking about silly stuff and sharing secrets. We would discuss everything; she always had a smile on her face and encouraging word to keep me on the right path. Aunt Tiny loved being a teacher and sharing funny stories about her students. Her greatest love of all was Uncle Calvin, after all these years together they had a bond I will always admire. The love, the caring, and the support those two have was a special gift you just can’t find anywhere. She would tell me; hang in there and someday you will find that special person too. Aunt Tiny will be missed terribly by her family and by so many people whose lives she has touched over the years. I am thankful and blessed for having her in my life. I have to remind myself now she is no longer suffering and pray she has found peace. I would like to believe she is with grandma and grandpa now as she looks down watching over us. It really weighs on my heart, that I could not be there with her in the end to say goodbye. I pray God gives Uncle Calvin the strength to make it through this very difficult time. We will always be here for you if you need anything. Now I would like to say, until we meet again in heaven Aunt Tiny…. I hope you know how much I love you, how much you meant to me, how much I will miss you and I will never forget you.
Your niece - Tina

I'm so sorry Calvin for your loss. She was one of the best teachers that I have ever worked with. Most importantly, she was the teacher that left footprints on her students hearts. I admired your dedication and love that you showed Shirley every day of her life. May God bring you peace in the days to come.

I am so sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. It was such a pleasure to have had her for a sister-in-law. We all enjoyed getting together at the Shuler parents home for the holidays. Many nice memories. Prayers to Calvin.
