Uncle Colonel's obituary on this website is very fitting, given that my fondest memories of him are sitting on his lap or near him listening to him play guitar or banjo and sing, particularly when "Rocky Top" was on the playlist (even though we did't have playlists in those days).
I remember the warm, welcoming smell of his and Aunt Wilma's house on the hill where they lived, the sound of his cattle in the distance or an occasional car passing on the highway below, and just how quiet it was there. Those memories remind me of what great, genuine people they both were, how so openly loving and caring they were, and how much I cherish the time I was able to spend with them.
It's hard to see anyone pass, but I celebrate the life Uncle Colonel lived and am glad he is reunited with Aunt Wilma, Uncle Russell and the rest of our family.
