Obituary of Betty Jean Combs Barns
SALTVILLE / RICH VALLEY, Va.
Betty Jean Combs Barns, age 85 of the Saltville / Rich Valley community, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Johnson City Medical Center.
Betty was a member of the Rich Valley Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Radford University, and a proud fan of Virginia Tech Athletics. Betty was a dairyman’s wife and homemaker for 62 years. She worked hard on the farm for her family and friends, and she was always kind to anyone she came in contact with. The hardest working woman we have ever known will forever be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Herman and Anna Mae Latham Combs; and nephew, Jeff Combs; brother-in-law, C.T. Barns, Jr.; sister-in-law, Nancy Huff Barns.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, John Barns of the Saltville/ Rich Valley community; son, David Barns of Chapel Hill, N.C.; daughter, Lib Burress and husband, Tim of Saltville, Va.; two grandchildren, Jessica and husband, Arnold, and Cody and fiancé, Autumn; four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Lucas, Emma and Vaughn; brother, J.H. Combs of Abingdon, Va.; several nieces and nephews; and beloved pet Rosie.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Fresenius Abingdon Dialysis and Dr. Henry; Richardson Ambulance Service; and the Rich Valley Community Food for Friends Ministry.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 8 p.m. at Rich Valley Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Andrew Parkey officiating. Burial will be Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 3 p.m. in the Rich Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Rich Valley Presbyterian Church; or at any time at the home of Lib and Tim Burress.
