Obituary of Robert Johnson

SUGAR GROVE, Va. Robert “Bobby” Johnson, age 75, died Friday, July 29, 2016 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va. Bobby was a member of the Sugar Grove Baptist Church; and if you needed him, you would have found him hanging out on the front porch of Shirley’s Market in the Grove, probably letting folks know what he thought as an official member of the unofficial Sugar Grove Town Council. In his spare time he loved to strip copper. Bobby Johnson will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hurley and Belle Johnson; brother, Albert Johnson; and sister, Irene Stone. Bobby is survived by his wife, Frances “Cookie” Johnson; daughter, Dorothy Greer and husband, Gale all of Sugar Grove, Va.; sisters, Violet Young of Sugar Grove, Va., Nancy Cook of Chilhowie, Va., and Ethel Johnson of Wytheville, Va.; grandchildren, Robin Young and husband, Eric of Abingdon, Va., and Gale Greer, Jr. and wife, Samantha of Chilhowie, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Emeri and Rowan Young; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 31, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Don Stone and Reverend Cliff Ramey officiating. Burial will follow in Comers Creek Cemetery, Grayson County, Virginia. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 until 3 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
