Obituary of James Browning Osborne

SUGAR GROVE, VA: James Browning “Jim” Osborne, age 80, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion Va. He was born June 4, 1935 in Russell County, Va. to the late Howard “John” and Lula Osborne. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960 at Fort Sheridan, Ill. and was retired from General Dynamics Corporation, Marion Va. He was a faithful member of Wharf Hill United Methodist Church, Sugar Grove, Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Osborne and a sister, Mary Kitler. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lena Anderson Osborne of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Robin Osborne of Sugar Grove, Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Chris Phillips of Traphill, N.C.; three grandchildren, Savannah Osborne and fiancé, Tyler Martin of Berea, Ky. and Laura and James Phillips of Traphill, N.C.; three step-grandchildren, Tosha Carver, Steven Talley and Eric Moore; four great-grandchildren, Braxton and Avery of Berea, Ky. and Shalee and Tina of Marion, Va.; a very special and wonderful companion, his cat Susie. Jim also leaves behind many extended family members and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Wharf Hill United Methodist Church, Sugar Grove, Va. with Reverend Bill Ring, LaVon Lowery and Reverend Mike Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 4, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wharf Hill UMC, Attn: Violet Young, 805 Cedar Springs Rd. Sugar Grove, Va. 24375 or to your local animal shelter.
