Obituary of Charles Phillippi
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA: CHARLES G. PHILLIPPI, age 73, died Thursday, March 17, 2005 in Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, Tennessee. He established the Settlers Museum of Southwest Virginia which chronicles the settling of Southwest Virginia by the Scotch-Irish and German immigrants. He was a graduate of Emory and Henry College and did graduate work at Virginia Tech and the University of Tennessee. Mr. Phillippi was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife, Cassie T. Phillippi of Charlotte, North Carolina. Two daughters, Debbie Phillippi of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dawn Wolfe of Jamestown, North Carolina. Four sons, Dan Phillippi of Matthews, North Carolina; David Phillippi of Wilmington, North Carolina; Douglas Phillippi of Carrboro, North Carolina; and Dennis Phillippi of Memphis, Tennessee. One sister, Dorthea Hall of Marion, Virginia. One brother, Elmer Phillippi of Sugar Grove, Virginia. Ten grandchildren also survive. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Wharf Hill First United Methodist Church, Sugar Grove, Virginia, with Rev. Kenneth Conner officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the services. Burial will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Settlers Museum of Southwest Virginia, 1322 Rocky Hollow Road, Atkins, Virginia 24311.
