Obituary of Edna D Thomas

Glade Spring, Va.: Edna D. Thomas, 90, from the friendship community of Glade Spring, Va, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, February 14, 2016. Edna was retired from the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Va, after 23 years of service as a CNA. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred J. Thomas; daughter, Linda Sue Thomas; and son, Dean Shatley. To treasure her memory, she leaves behind one son, Andy Thomas and wife, Karen of Glade Spring, Va; three daughters, Freda Thomas, with whom she made her home in Glade Spring, Mary StClair and husband, Don of Trinity, NC, and Brenda Taylor of Abingdon, Va; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Evelyn Shatley. Left in Freda’s care are her faithful canine companions, Sadie Mae, Cody and Jack. To honor the wishes of Ms. Thomas, there will be no public visitation hours or services scheduled. A private graveside service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions may be made to the family to offset final expenses. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to our sister Freda, who was mom’s primary care giver, for willing and unselfishly putting her life on hold in order to fulfill mom’s wish to live out her remaining days at home.
