Obituary of Peggy L. Hayton McCloskey (Burris)

SUGAR GROVE, Va.: PEGGY L. HAYTON McCLOSKEY (BURRIS), age 76, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, February 15, 2016, at her home in Sugar Grove, Virginia. Peggy was born October 3, 1939 in Cedar Springs, Virginia. She worked most of her life in the textile industry in Delaware and New Jersey. She was an avid NASCAR fan and her driver was #24, Jeff Gordon. Peggy was also a Washington Redskins fan. She and Robert loved playing slot machines in Cherokee, North Carolina’s casino and the horse races at Delaware Park. Ms. McCloskey was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Aileen (Lindamood) Hayton; two children Pamela McCloskey and Lee McCloskey, Jr.; one grandchild, David Morris; two brothers, Roger and Richard Hayton; and her stepmother, Roberta Hayton. Peggy is survived by her life partner and caregiver for 37 years, Robert Burris of Sugar Grove, Virginia; three daughters, Cindy Armstrong of Virginia, Valerie DiRocco of Washington State and Sandra McCloskey of Delaware; one sister, Judy Hayton of Delaware; one brother, Chris Hayton of Virginia; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; her loving dog Beanie. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In keeping with Ms. McCloskey’s wishes, a private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Peggy to Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 600 West Ridge Road, Wytheville, Virginia 24382; Sugar Grove Life Saving Crew, attention Carol Choate, P.O. Box 108, Sugar Grove, Virginia. Additionally, the family would like to thank the folks at Smyth County Ambulance and the 3rd floor staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
