Obituary of Alberta Hutchins

MARION, VIRGINIA: ALBERTA CROCKETT HUTCHINS, age 96, died at Westhaven Retirement Center in Abingdon, Virginia, Tuesday, March 22, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Albert Pendleton and Sallie Thomas Crockett of the Crockett's Cove section of Wythe County. She was educated in Marion, Virginia, and received her degree at Radford University and taught many years in the Smyth County schools. Mrs. Hutchins was a member of Marion Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star where she served for 63 years and held memberships in several professional organizations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Hutchins. Mrs. Hutchins is survived by two sisters, Lucy C. Paschal of Pittsboro, North Carolina, and Agnes C. Jacoby of Roanoke, Virginia. One nephew, Albert H. and Elizabeth C. Jacoby, Jr. of Fredericksburg, Virginia. One niece, Sally J. and Thomas J. McMillen of Wilmington, North Carolina. Six great-nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Marion Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service in the church parlor. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Marion Baptist Church, 1258 Main Street, Marion, Virginia, 24354 or to Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 325 Cummings Street, Abingdon, Virginia 24210.
