Obituary of Maryanne Wade Roland
MARION, Va.: MARYANNE WADE ROLAND, age 86, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Va. following a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband H. Glenn Roland, Sr.; her father, Richard T. Wade; her mother and step-father, Alma and Charles Smith of Covington, Va.
Maryanne is survived by her son, Howard Glenn Roland, Jr. of Marion, Va.; her daughter Carolyn Bolton and husband, Greg of Vienna, WVa. In addition she is survived by four grandchildren, Adam Roland and wife, Megan of Roanoke, Va., Andrew Roland of Marion, Va., and John and MaryCatherine Bolton of Vienna, WVa.
Her first love was music and she attended Westminister Choir College in Princeton, NJ. In her early 20’s she was a mezzo-soprano for a popular ladies ensemble, The Merry Larks. They performed at various venues, including The Greenbrier, The Homestead, and Radio City Music Hall in New York City. They were also featured on a local weekly radio show in Covington, Va. She was proud to have been the gift shop buyer and manager for Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion for over 30 years. She was a dedicated member of First United Methodist Church for nearly 60 years and sang in the Chancel Choir for over 50 years. She also enjoyed the company of her monthly bridge club and had been in the same club for nearly 50 years. Maryanne was a wonderful homemaker, a devoted mother, and loved more than anything spending time with her family. She was equally happy whether at her home, on a lake or traveling anywhere near the ocean.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Monday, December 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 115 South Church Street, Marion, Va. with Reverend David Woody officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 6, 2015 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel, Marion, Va.
