Obituary of Rose Cornick
MARION, VIRGINIA: ROSE MARIE KILLINGER CORNICK, age 74, widow of Robert Madison Cornick, Jr., died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. Born August 22, 1930 in Abingdon, Virginia to the late James Fred Killinger and Rosalind Thompson Peery, she was educated at Marion Senior High School, Sullins College in Bristol, Tennessee, and graduated in 1949 from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. Mrs. Cornick was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church serving on the Alter Guild and directed the choir for many years. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as a long-time member of the Chapter 10 Board in Marion, Virginia. She also co-founded Olde Virginia Gift and Stationary, a popular gift shop in downtown Marion for many years. Mrs. Cornick is survived by one daughter, Mary Virginia Bauman and husband, John Ben of Mt. Sidney, Virginia. Two sons, James Killinger Cornick of Richmond, Virginia, and John Macon Cornick and wife, Gina of Raleigh, North Carolina. Five grandchildren, Sarah Marie and John Nikolaus Bauman, Christina Marie Cornick, Mary Catherine Cornick, and Macon Louise Cornick. Special friends, Penny and James Bise of Rural Retreat, Virginia also survive. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Episcopal Church Women, 409 W. Main Street, Marion, Virginia 24354.
