For those of us who were in Marion High School during the late 50's & early 60's, we will never forget Coach Earp. There was always a twinkle in his eye, which betrayed his soft side. In algebra class, we will always remember the flying chalk & erasers. What a guy! I feel fortunate to have had him as a part of my life. Condolences to all the family & particularly David. He will not remember me, but I babysat on several occasions. RIP Coach.

Dear Earp family, I was saddened to hear of Coach's passing. I remember him not only as our football coach, but a great semi-pro baseball player. He was also a great math teacher who loved to throw chalk and erasers. I met him when Mrs. Hazeldine worked for him and was amazed at how he managed so many things. You all have my deepest sympathy.

Bill Earp was definitely one of a kind. He liked being known as a tough guy - which he was - but he was also very kind to many people over the years. He affected a great number of lives as a teacher and coach. He was a loyal friend. Most of all he was proud of his family. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family for the loss of this unique individual. I am proud to have known him.

I will miss him...my "Coach", teacher and friend for all these years! I saw him 2-3 weeks ago and thought he looked better than he had since the last few times I had seen him. He was always good to me in so many ways, as he was to everyone else. He was smart, humble and giving of himself, endearing him to so many of us. I will be unable to attend tonight but would have loved to be in order to pay my respects to him and you, his family! Gary "Hunch" Hall-MSHS, class of 1965

Billy, Mark and David, I remember when we were younger in School and so much enjoyed your father-such a nice man. Terry was in the band with David and I remember all of you guys. My wife, Linda had Coach Earp as her Math Teacher and just loved his ways of talking! Terry lost his father Willis Moore and his older brother this year, so very much understand the difficult times that you are experiencing. Stay strong and know we are thinking about you all - here in San Antonio.

Dear Mrs. Earp and family, I so was saddened today when I received the news about Coach Earp's passing. I was always impressed with his passion for teaching and life in general. Algebra II/Trig and Math Analysis just wouldn't stand out in my memory if I hadn't had him as my teacher. With a twinkle in his eye and maybe even a little smirky smile, he faithfully managed to make these subjects interesting and fun for us as his students. What I'll always remember is how excited Coach Earp would be on Friday's before MSHS football games. At the front of the classroom, he would often get down in a football stance like he was on the line of scrimage and then lunge forward with a "womp" to kickoff the start of class. There was never a dull moment when Coach Earp was in charge. I give thanks to God for his life. I pray that the Lord would bless you his family in the days to come as you mourn his loss. I also hope that the stories of how his life impacted so many will encourage your heart and bring comfort to your soul. Know that as the stories continue to be told, his legacy lives on as well. He will not be forgotten. Sincerely, Chaplain, Major William R. Spencer, USAF MSHS Class of 1992

Dear David, Julie, Amanda, Brad and Chris - We want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as you are saying "see you later" to Bill. We have over 35 years of "sports" memories with you all and will always treasure them. To this day the memories are always brought up of Gretchen arguing with Ref. Bill during girls basketball and NEVER winning - but he would always give her that "wink" and then share encouraging words after every game. We have come to know and love Amanda & Brad through Emory and their friendship with Tori & Marshall and now your son Chris - what a blessing he is to me at the Barrel !! May the Lord wrap his arms around all of you through this time and all the many memories sustain you until we all have our wonderful reunion on the other side !! God Bless !! and always look forward to remembering Bill as we cheer for the WASPS !! Sincerely and with love, Eddie and Kim Doss and family

Coach Earp will be missed by many who passed through Marion Senior High. Our Dad, J. Leonard Mauck, thought the world of him as a teacher, coach and human being. In Coach's Algebra class, all of us knew when he was getting truly annoyed with us and we knew to straighten up! Wonderful memories of a man loved by many.

Mrs. Earp, Billy, Mark, and David, I feel a loss for words to say I'm so sorry. There is no way to wrap up what your family has meant to me. " Coach" was a wonderful teacher for me. It was the most fun summer class I ever took. I know you will miss him as we all will. But he is at peace now. He will long be remembered in our community.
