Obituary of Johnette Shabazz

MARION, VIRGINIA: JOHNETTE BRITTIAN SHABAZZ, age 67, died Sunday, August 23, 2015 in Baton Rouge, LA. Johnette loved the Lord and loved being involved in the Lord's work. For many years she was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and children's choir. She worked at the Mount Roger's Mental Health Clinic for 25 years and had a great passion for mental health counseling. Johnette was a woman of God and faith, with a compassionate heart for others. She loved her family with all her heart and enjoyed life fully. Johnette is survived by her daughter, Ife Nelson Jackson and husband, Will of Denham Springs, LA; two sons, David Nelson and wife, Nicole of Drakes Branch, VA and Jomo Nelson of Las Vegas, NV; one brother, J.D. Staten of Brooklyn, NY; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Adrianne, Olivia, Vincent, Sophia, Benjamin, and Claire; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 28, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the First Baptist Church with Bishop Nolan Wolfe officiating.
