Obituary of Leala Porter
LEALA ATKINS PORTER, age 67, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 from Wythe County Community Hospital. She was born July 18, 1936 the daughter of the late Charles Paul and Itura Buchanan Atkins. She was a member of the Atkins First Church of God and Atkins Ruritan Club. Mrs. Porter loved her family, her church, and cooking. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Charles E. Porter of Wytheville, Virginia. One son and daughter-in-law, John and Ann Eller of Mechanicsville, Virginia. One grandson, John Ryan Eller of Chester, Virginia. One granddaughter, Jenna M. Eller of Mechanicsville, Virginia. One step-granddaughter, Melissa Purvis of Florida. Twin brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Peggy Atkins of Atkins, Virginia. Two nieces, Anne Atkins Testerman and husband, John of Wytheville, Virginia, and Sue Marchant and husband, Mike of Marion, Virginia. One nephew, Tommy Atkins and wife, Holly of Wytheville, Virginia. Three great-nieces, two great-nephews, and two great-great-nephews. Also surviving is a host of many other friends and relatives. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 16, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Atkins First Church of God with Rev. Nouhad Melki officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
