Obituary of Evelyn Rethford

MARION, VIRGINIA: EVELYN RETHFORD, age 85, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Virginia. Evelyn was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. She enjoyed playing Bingo at the VFW. Evelyn enjoyed working puzzles and was also a talented quilter. She loved making quilts for her family and most of all she loved her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Rethford; parents, Leroy and Delia Hart Hash; three sisters; five brothers; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter. Evelyn is survived by five daughters, Barbara Billings and husband, James of Marion, Virginia, Regina Thomas and husband, Gary of Atkins, Virginia, Mary Widener of Marion, Virginia, Patty Burchett and special friend, Doug Keith of Chilhowie, Virginia and Trish Rethford of Saltville, Virginia; one son, Roy Rethford and wife, Linda of Marion, Virginia; seventeen grandchildren; thirty three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with Reverend Dennis Eller officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Francis Marion VFW Post #4667 Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 767, Marion, VA 24354.
