Obituary of Jimmy Smith
ROANOKE, VIRGINIA: JIMMY DEAN SMITH, age 66, died Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Jimmy was born August 9, 1948 in Smyth County, Virginia to the late Hugh Cleveland and Mary Ruth Atwell Smith. He was a very giving and loving man. He cared deeply for his wife, children and grandchildren. Jimmy left his mark in Roanoke City, he was a brick and block mason and had a hand in many of the buildings that stand there today. Anything you needed, Jimmy was a go to guy. In his later years, when he couldn't work, he taught his grandchildren his trade. He was an excellent teacher and a great man who was very loved.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Smith, Hugh Smith, Jr. and Donnie Smith.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Flora Smith of Roanoke, Virginia; two daughters, Karen Smith Brown of Elliston, Virginia and Becky Martin and husband, Mike of Crockett, Virginia; one son, Junior Smith and wife, Melissa of Elliston, Virginia; one sister, Nina Hagy and husband, Robert of Maryland; seven grandchildren, Heather Etzler, Joshua Trent, Travis Quesenberry, Cheyenne Trent, Jessica Smith, Jeremy Trent and Tyler Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Kimberlin Christian Union Church, 682 Kimberlin Road, Rural Retreat, Virginia at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jessie Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Groseclose, Virginia. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Christian Union Church.
