Obituary of Nancy Bassar

RICH VALLEY, VIRGINIA: NANCY VIRGINIA CLARK BASSAR, 95, left to be with Our Lord on Sunday, April 19, 2015. Virginia, also known affectionately as 'Bets' by her immediate family, was born in Rich Valley, near Saltville,in Smyth County, VA; the 6th and youngest child of Wilson Buchanan Clark and Mary Emily Painter. Virginia was a Registered Nurse, having attended the University of Virginia, and served our country in that capacity during World War II in the United States Navy. There she met Nicholas Bassar, Jr., and the two were married in August 1948 in Montana, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Nancy Virginia retired from Houston Northwest Medical Center as the first Director of Central Sterile Processing and Supply, following a career spanning the states of LA, IL, TN, and TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sister, and her beloved husband of 46 years. She is survived by her daughter Mary Lynn Bassar Sullender and husband Johnny of Memphis, TN; her sons Nicholas Clark Bassar and wife Judith of Allentown, PA and Thomas Wilson Bassar and wife Emmelyn of Spring, TX; and her three grandsons, Robert Nicholas Bassar and wife Ashley, Benjamin Wilson Buchanan Bassar, and Nicholas Wilson Bassar, all of Spring, TX. Just as her wit and wisdom were celebrated in life, so shall her love and kindness be celebrated in life ever after. Graveside service will be held Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Rich Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Rich Valley, Virginia with Reverend Andy Parkey officiating.
