Obituary of Alvin McBroom

MARION, VIRGINIA: ALVIN R. McBROOM, SR. age 76, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Virginia. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1975 after proudly serving his country for 20 years. He was a graduate of Virginia Intermont with a 4 year business degree. Alvin worked for the Town of Marion for 25 years; after retiring in 2001 he was most comfortable relaxing in his recliner, watching television. He loved his children and grandchildren and was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. McBroom, son, Gary D. McBroom; parents, Thomas Esbon McBroom and Dorothy "Dot" Ramsey McBroom; brothers, Tommy McBroom and Cecil McBroom. Alvin is survived by three sons, Alvin R. McBroom, Jr. and wife, Patricia, William Wayne McBroom and wife, Cindy, and Michael Ray McBroom all of Marion, Virginia; brother, Paul W. McBroom of Dulac, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Matthew McBroom, Kimberly McBroom and Jennifer McBroom. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Mr. Blake Frazier officiating. Graveside Services will be held Monday, April 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery with full Military Rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com.
