Obituary of Dorothy Wolfe Ventresca
MARION, VIRGINIA: DOROTHY NELL WOLFE (YORK) VENTRESCA, age 80, received her out of this world promotion on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Virginia due to complications after surgery.
Born August 19, 1934 in Smyth County, Virginia, she was preceded in death by her parents Rex Wolfe and Virginia Tilley Wolfe from the Adwolfe Community; brothers, Charles Wolfe, Howard Wolfe and first husband, Jim York of Loudon, Tennessee.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Peter R. Ventresca of Marion, Virginia; sons, Jim York and wife, Lorraine of Marion, Virginia, Rex York of Revere, Massachusetts, Timothy York and wife, Barbara of Clearwater, Florida; grandsons, Joel York USMC, David York USMC and James York of Marion, Virginia; granddaughter, Rebecca York of Clearwater, Florida; many cousins, nieces, nephews from Roanoke, Virginia to Decatur, Georgia and special friend, Raymond Ortiź.
Dorothy graduated from Marion High School, then received her Bachelor of Science degree at Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She then earned a Masters Degree in Education from E.T.S.U. She taught school at many levels in Marion, Lee County, Hollins University, Dunedin, Florida ending her career at a Christian school in Hamilton, Massachusetts. Returning home to Marion with her husband Peter to help care for her father. She most recently received an Associates Degree in Theology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible. She was a past Regent of DAR Royal Oak Chapter. Until the last couple of months when her health did not allow it, she taught piano to students for 15 years in private lessons, first at the Art Place in Chilhowie, Virginia and then in her home in Adwolfe. She considered this her ministry, teaching others to play music that would glorify God the Father and her Lord Jesus Christ.
Dot was a committed member of Chilhowie Baptist Church and had a deep burden for lost souls. She believed deeply in the power of God's Word to change lives for eternity. Considering this, in lieu of flowers, it would please her for contributions to be made to Gideons International for distribution of Bibles made in her memory. A special note of thanks to the Chilhowie Rescue Squad for their tireless efforts to save Dot's life.
She touched the lives of those around her and will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
A Celebration of Dot's Life will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Chuck Herrell officiating. Burial will follow in South Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
