Obituary of Robert Slusher
MARION, VIRGINIA: ROBERT LEE SLUSHER, age 89 of Marion, Virginia formerly of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away Monday, March 2, 2015 at Wellmont Regional Hospital, Bristol, Tennessee.
Robert was born June 12, 1925 in Christiansburg, Virginia. He was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II and a 1949 graduate of VPI with a degree in mechanical engineering. For 47 years Robert owned and operated R.L. Slusher Associates; a consultant engineer business in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was a life member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers. He was also a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning, and was registered and provided service in 15 states.
Robert was a member of West Emory Presbyterian Church and served as an elder for many years. He was former president of the Bearden Lions Club of Knoxville and also served on the board of the City of Knoxville as representative of the ASHRAE Group on the plumbing and heating code committee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian N. and Celia A. Slusher; sisters, Myrtle Daughtery, Freda Belcher, and Mildred Wright; brothers, Fred A. Slusher, Kenneth Slusher, Jim Slusher and Julian Slusher, Jr.
Robert is survived by his wife of 71 years, Virginia H. Slusher of Marion, Virginia; several in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Dr. G. Kenneth Gates and Reverend Harry Howe officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
