Bonnie sure was one of a kind. She was a special friend to me. What a "good and faithful servant" she was! She was inspiring and showed us all how to age well!

Denny and Phyllis Ann and families, I am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing, but so very happy to know of the celebration in heaven for her homecoming! I have spent the day remembering my Henry Street days and times with you and Bill and Bonnie. My "Stroodle" days. I appreciate all they did to form the person I am today.

Back in 1999, I was first introduced to the name, and later to the person, Bonnie Barker, because of her position as Fiscal Manager for District III Governmental Cooperative in a little town the called Marion, Virginia. I was rather new here, having moved from Chicago several years earlier, but I would soon come to understand and appreciate a part of Virginia I had never known before.
Bonnie and I connected because she would report any accident that involved one of her buses, and I would handle the claim and report back to her with my investigative findings. It was the first time that I had ever been addressed by what would become my new title, "Mr. Joe," and she said it with such pleasant politeness, the likes of which I had never heard before.
Sometime later, I was able to take a business trip from Richmond to Marion, along with my wife, and we met for the first time the Bonnie Barker whose name and voice had been imprinted in my mind. We had a delightful visit with her, and we enjoyed a pleasant lunch at a place called Hungary Mother's State Park.
When the business day ended, Bonnie invited us over to her lovely home where she shared a part of her personal life with all the framed photographs of her family. Her conversation was warm and welcoming, and her charm was simple yet elegant. She never boasted, but one could tell that she was proud of her heritage and her family.
Two things Bonnie would not discuss openly, and that was her age and her political persuasion. However, shortly after she retired, she did open up the secret chronological number of her life span. In fact, she even admitted her birthday on the first of May, and ever since then, I would be sure to send her a special birthday card, and remember her at Christmas as well.
While she never did tell me who she voted for, I kind of guessed where she stood in the political realm.
Regretfully, I was unable to attend Bonnie's retirement party, but she did tell me what a wonderful tribute that she was given for all the years of her dedicated work at District Three.
My dear friend, Bonnie Barker, will surely be missed by all of us on this side of eternity, but there is no doubt in my mind that she will be welcomed on the other side with the words of a promise especially for her, "Well done, My good and faithful servant!"

Phyllis Ann and Denny, I was so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. As you know we just had a great visit with her over this past Christmas at the church dinner. She always loved to tell the stories when she and your Dad would have me and my sister for visits as young kids. You all are in my prayers.

Dear Family: Deborah and I were saddened to learn of Sister Bonnie's passing. We have so many wonderful memories of her during our years at Cedar Bluff. She was always so loving and supportive of us, and so very faithful to the church. I know her family and church family will miss her greatly, but I know she is enjoying a glorious reunion with loved ones and the presence of her Savior today! Please know that we are asking the Lord to bring you His sweet comfort in your time of loss.

Dear Family, I am so sorry to hear about Bonnie leaving us. She was fine when I saw her not very long ago. Jesus tells us in His word that He was going away to prepare a place for us, so Bonnie's place was ready. With Sincere Sympathy, Pauline Titus 2:13
