Obituary of Donald Roland

MARION, VIRGINIA: DONALD NELSON "DON" ROLAND, SR., age 84, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Virginia. If you knew Don Roland, you knew a true friend. From his time in the United States Air Force to his time volunteering in the Lions Club, he believed in service. Don was a lifelong member of Marion's First United Methodist Church. He was faithful to attend and always ready to lend a helping hand. How many people can say they sold Nolan Ryan a car? Don sold Nolan his first new car during his time at Marion Motor Company and they've shared a family friendship ever since. If you saw Don in the post office or on a creek bank fishing, he was always the same, friendly and smiling. Many folks knew Don from his business, Roland Petroleum, which he owned and managed for many years. His family, his friends, and his community are sure going to miss him. Mr. Roland was preceded in death by his parents, F. A. "Happy" Roland and Myrtle Nelson Roland and brother, James Floyd Roland. Don is survived by his wife, Enid Z. Roland of Marion, Virginia; two daughters Patti McCambridge & husband, Jack of Chesapeake, Virginia and Angela Roland of Marion, Virginia; two sons, David Roland of Suwanee, Georgia and Donald Roland, Jr., of Triangle, Virginia; two grandchildren, Keirstin McCambridge of Nashville, Tennessee and Andrew Roland of Atlanta, Georgia. Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 19, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Marion, Virginia. Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia with Military Rites conducted by VFW Post #4667 and US Air Force Military Honor Guard.
