Obituary of Carol Hicks
MARION, VIRGINIA: CAROL PRESTON McMILLAN HICKS, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Virginia.
Carol was born on May 6, 1924 in Marion, Virginia. After attending Marion High School and Marion College, she married William Clinton Hicks on August 4, 1942. Bill preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1992.
Carol worked at the Pepsi Cola Bottling plant until her retirement as a payroll administrator on Dec. 1, 1987. Carol enjoyed attending First United Methodist Church and gatherings with the JOY group. Her many hobbies included gardening, reading, sewing, painting, traveling and camping with her family. She was well known among family and friends for her yeast rolls.
Carol is survived by her four sons, Michael Hicks and wife, Maudie Miller of Brighton, Illinois, have two children, Scott Hicks and Paige Hicks Schumacher. William Hicks and wife, Laura Meucci Hicks of Herndon, Virginia, have three children, Kelly Hicks Kalajian, Jeremy Hicks, and Jessica Hicks. Timothy Hicks and wife, Nancy Hicks of Gaithersburg, Maryland, have three children, Shannon Hicks, Timothy and Brandon Fowler and Christopher Hicks of Marion, Virginia, her youngest son, who lived with Carol and took excellent care of her in her senior years. Carol also has seven great grandchildren; Katie Schumacher, Julia Hicks, Jacob Schumacher, Grayson Hicks, Micah Kalajian, Matthew Schumacher, and Caleb Kalajian.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Marion, Virginia with Reverend David Woody and Mr. Denton Staley officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel, Marion, Virginia.
