Obituary of Edwin Mercer
ATKINS, VIRGINIA: EDWIN STANLEY MERCER, age 78, died Monday, January 5, 2015 at EMERITUS Senior Living, Roanoke, Virginia.
Mr. Mercer was born May 1, 1936 in Smyth County, Virginia to the late Dennis Stephen and Lissie Boyd Mercer. For over 40 years he was a dedicated employee at Brunswick. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Mercer also loved to garden, make hay and spent many hours with his wife and childhood sweetheart feeding and watching birds. Together they owned and operated a nursery and Christmas tree farm. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Atha Parker Mercer; and brother, Rudolph Mercer.
Mr. Mercer is survived by his daughter, Alisa Mercer; sister, Francila Cox, both of Wytheville, Virginia; aunt, Sadie Repass of Atkins, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
His life will be celebrated with a Memorial Service Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Marion Baptist Church with Reverend Stephanie Porter-Nichols and Reverend Rochelle Maxwell officiating. The Franklin Street United Methodist Church Choir will sing. A reception with refreshments will follow. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
