Obituary of Harry Stevenson

RURAL RETREAT, VIRGINIA: HARRY "JOE" STEVENSON, age 79, died Sunday, October 12, 2014 in Marion, Virginia. Joe was born February 17, 1935 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Stevenson. Mr. Stevenson was proud of his time in the United States Navy and his work life. Of late he was a successful realtor in Charlotte. However, his greatest role in life was being "Poppa" to his ten grandchildren. His presence and love will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joey Stevenson, a grandson, Joey Houck and a sister, Deloris Walker. He is survived by his wife, Deloris Offner Stevenson of Rural Retreat, Virginia; children, Richard Stevenson and wife, Brenda of Charlotte, North Carolina, Julie Hensley of Littleton, North Carolina, Gwen Stevenson and husband, Jim Connolly of Monroe, North Carolina, Amy Fry and husband, Eddie of Rural Retreat, Virginia and Christi Stevenson and husband, Benjamin Downs of Stanfield, North Carolina; ten grandchildren, Richard Stevenson, Gary Hart, Keeling Dickinson and husband, Jason, Ian Hensley, Shane Smith, Gage Smith, A.J. Stevenson, Matthew McKinney, Kayla Glenn and Corinthia Glenn; six great-grandchildren; one sister; and three brothers. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Marion, Virginia with Father Frances Musolooza officiating. Graveside Services will be held Friday, October 17, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, North Carolina with Deacon Peter Duca officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel in Marion, Virginia. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the Stevenson Family.
