Obituary of J. Copenhaver
MARION, VIRGINIA: J. RICHARD COPENHAVER, age 79, died Monday, October 6, 2014 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Virginia.
Richard was a loving husband and father as well as an excellent provider. If you knew him, you knew he was just a down right good man, who you may remember as "Bird Dog". He was retired from the U.S. Post Office after 30 years of loyal service. Most of his time was spent in route delivery for the Adwolfe area. After retiring he went into farming full time; but when asked about "doing something" his standard replay was "I can't, I'm retired". Richard never met a stranger and will be missed by his family, and many friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Milton and Willie Byron Copenhaver.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Betty Copenhaver; daughter, Lisa Papiernik; sister-in-law, Shirley Pennington and husband, Buddy all of Marion, Virginia; special friends, José Ortiz, Mondré Ortiz and Mark Richardson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Mike Sage officiating. Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Pall Bearers will be José Ortiz, Mondré Ortiz, Mark Richardson, Ricky Pennington, Keith Pennington and Anthony Pennington.
