Obituary of Martha Hoge
MARION, VIRGINIA: MRS. MARTHA COURTNEY HOGE, a loving mother, passed away at the age of 98 on Thursday, September 4, 2014 surrounded by her devoted and adoring children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Francis Moss Hoge, an infant son, Louis Moore Hoge, granddaughter, Sarah Katherine Hoge and a brother, Philip Melville Courtney, III.
Mrs. Hoge is survived by her children Jeff Hoge (Sherry), Courtney Hoge (Anne), Llewellyn Scull (Barry), Mardee Kilby (John), Philip Hoge (Anne), thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her quick wit, loving spirit and the unending joy expressed in loving her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her memory will be etched in their hearts forever.
During her time on earth, Martha Hoge gave much to the community and her church. She was an active member of Royal Oak Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder and participated in "Women of The Church". She served as a volunteer with the Smyth County Hospital Auxiliary for 33 years, held an office in the Virginia Association of Hospital Auxiliaries, and was an active member of the Marion Junior Woman's Club.
The family would like to express special thanks to caregivers, Betty, Beverly, Edna and Eula for giving loving attention to their mother.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Royal Oak Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Alan Gray and Mr. Miles C. Hoge, grandson, officiating. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall following the service. Burial in Rose Lawn Cemetery will follow the reception.
