Obituary of Hilda Schwartz
Hilda Farmer Schwartz, a grand lady and caterer to the community, passed from this life on Saturday, February 15, 2014. She was born on February 3, 1936 in Jenkin Jones, West Virginia. Best known for her cooking, Hilda fed everyone from her family and friends to governors and celebrities. Early in her career, she ran the lunch counters at both Marion Drugstore and City Drug in Marion, Virginia. For 20 years, she managed the food and catering services for Holston Hills Country Club. She was an active member and officer of the Business and Professional Women's Club, Chilhowie Lion's Club and a long time member of First United Methodist Church. She was gracious and giving and treated everyone as family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, James Edward Schwartz, Sr.; daughters, Cindy and John Olinger of Pulaski, VA, and Dana and Mike Miller of Stuart, FL; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tina and Bruce Fulton (Drew and Brett), Kristina and Jaime De La Rosa (Oscar and Lucie)
Jennifer Miller, Nat and Angela Olinger, and James Miller; siblings, Louise Collins, Lacy and Eula Farmer, and Eva and Jack Catron; sisters-in-law Pat Farmer and Adrien Farmer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Blaine and America Farmer ; son, James Edward (Jimmy) Schwartz, Jr.; sister, Pauline Pennington; and brothers, Garland Farmer and Willard Farmer.
The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone for their prayers and to all the nurses and doctors of Smyth County Community Hospital, Hospice of Southwest Virginia, and Virginia Home Health for taking such excellent care of our wife, Momma, Grandma, and Granny.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 17, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Seaver-Brown Funeral Home chapel with Mr. Denton Staley officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Mount Carmel.
