Obituary of Hilton Greer
MARION, VIRGINIA: HILTON LAFAYETTE GREER, JR. age 82, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Hilton was a proud SKT3 Navy Veteran and served in the Korean War from 1952 until 1956. Upon returning home, Hilton began working as the Purchasing Manager for V and Green Construction which built Interstate 81. He later went to work with Brunswick Defense as Purchasing Manager for twenty years and retired in the same position with D.G. Mouldings.
A long standing member of Marion Baptist Church, Hilton gave of his time and professional experience in the House and Grounds Committee along with several other appointments over the years. Prior to his illness he served the families of Marion Baptist Church as a Deacon.
Hilton loved his Lord, his life and his family, but there was a very special place in his heart for his squirrels, affectionately known as, "the boys". As a matter of fact, Hilton's home was referred to by many as, "the nut house". He absolutely loved and was most at peace in nature. If he wasn't swimming, you'd find him happy on the golf course.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Agnes Greer; his parents, Hilton and Bonnie Heldreth Greer; two sisters, Bessie Williams and Jessie Smith; one brother, Earl Greer and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Hilton is survived by his wife, Connie S. Greer of Marion, Virginia; one daughter, Patty Davidson and husband, Bradley of Atkins, Virginia; one step-son, Steve Harris of Lynchburg, Virginia; two brothers, Harold Ulysses Greer and wife Fannie of Abingdon, Virginia and Clarence E.
