Obituary of Virginia Brooks McClanahan
MARION, VIRGINIA: VIRGINIA DELLA BROOKS McCLANAHAN, age 76, died Monday, January 27, 2014 at her home.
She was born February 11, 1937 in Grayson County to the late Glen J. and Gladys Anderson Brooks. She was an avid gardener and published author. Virginia loved writing short stories and poetry; and received several awards from the National Poets Society. She was retired from Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute after 32 years of service as an Occupational Therapist. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Lane; three brothers, Rex Allen Brooks, William Earl Brooks and Rufus Pete Brooks; and one grandson, Daniel Tuell.
Virginia is survived by a daughter, Mary Elaine Teaster and husband, Jimmy; son, Stan Djukovich and wife, Debbie Jones all of Marion, Virginia; four brothers, David Edward Brooks and wife, Ruby of Chilhowie, Virginia, Blaine Brooks and wife, Carolyn of Sugar Grove, Virginia; Garland Brooks of Chilhowie, Virginia and Glen Jackson Brooks and wife, Joyce of Konnarock, Virginia; two grandchildren, Brennan Djukovich and Angelina Chatham; three step-grandchildren, Jason, Josh and Jeff Teaster; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Armstrong, Jessie Chatham, Chase "Little Blue Jeans" Chatham, Marshall Taylor Tuell and Skyler Moore; four step-great-grandchildren, Bailey, Aisleigh, Jalen and Christian Teaster; two aunts Dolly Cullop of Troutdale, Virginia and Sylvia Conella of Maryland; several nieces and nephews and two special pups, Tootie and Donna Sue.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Mike Sage officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
