Obituary of Anne Shults

MARION, VIRGINIA: ANNE CAROL WASHBURN SHULTS, passed away at her home in Marion, Virginia on Saturday, December 28, 2013 following a brief illness. Anne was born in Roanoke, Virginia on August 30, 1953 and was the daughter of John Comer Washburn, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Robert M. Shults of Marion, Virginia, a son Robert A. Shults and his wife Claire of Atlanta, Georgia, daughter Sally E. Shults of Virginia Beach, Virginia, daughter, Kristen E. Finley and her friend Brian Leaman of Salem, Virginia, daughter Kelly Anne Archer and her husband, Travis of Wytheville, Virginia and daughter Margaret M. Scimone and husband Stephen of Burlington, Vermont, ten beloved grandchildren, Tyler Treski, John Ryan Finley, William Carper, Chole Carper, Sorin Carper, Julia Shults, Hudson Scimone, Logan Robert Shults, Kelsey Archer and Bailey Archer. Anne relished her time raising her family while nurturing all of the children in the neighborhood. She logged thousand of miles in her minivan driving to and from all the athletic competitions and activities in which her children were involved. After raising her family she began a career as a legal secretary and office manager for Gwyn & Tate until her retirement in 2011. She contributed generously of her time and talents in support of several elected public servants. Until her illness, she also served on the Smyth County Social Services Board, the Smyth County Electoral Board, Smyth County Tourism organization and Helping Hands Community Thrift Store. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, having served on the vestry, altar guild and as a Sunday school teacher. Anne was a cherished partner and mother and a faithful friend to many. Her family has been blessed by an amazing outpouring of love from her friends during her illness and afterwards. The family will receive visitors on Friday, January 3, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Funeral Home in Marion, Virginia. Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, Marion at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with the Reverend Emily F. Edmondson presiding with inurnment at the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in her remembrance be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 401 West Main Street, Marion, Virginia 24354 or to Hospice of SW Virginia, 600 West Ridge Road, Wytheville, Virginia 24382.
