Obituary of Doris Atkins
MARION, VIRGINIA: DORIS MANICK ATKINS, age 87 left this earth to go to her long awaited Mansion in Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on August 13, 2013. She was born in West Frankford, Illinois on October 21, 1925 to the late George J. and Elsie Thompson Manick. She was a lifelong and very devoted Christian. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Marion where she was a Sunday school teacher for 27 years, teaching pre-K through adult classes.
She was a person with a very strong willpower and positive attitude who encouraged all of us to start the day with a big smile on our face, put all our faith in the Lord and never give up on anything. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a good friend to neighbors and her church family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, George Manick, Jr.; her loving husband of 53 years, Noel L. Atkins; a daughter, Sandra Lynn Atkins; and a son, Keith "Sonny" Atkins.
She is survived by two daughters, Greta A. Schwartz and husband, David of Harrisonburg, Virginia and Bonita A. "Bonnie" Raber and husband, Jimmy of Marion, Virginia; five grandchildren, Brittany Marshall, Cory Atkins, Josh Atkins, Jolene Atkins and Brooklyn Raber; three great-grandchildren, Caleb Sawyer, Ethan Marshall and Xandre Brooks; three step-grandchildren, Jaime Bush, Zachary Blevins and Emily Oakes; four step-great-grandchildren, Angela Schwartz, Heather Cubbage, Kimberly Cubbage and Hailey Oakes; her very loyal and special caregivers, Brandy and Ryan Sawyer and good friend and neighbor, Nora Totten also survives.
The family would like to express special appreciation to the Mountain State Home Care and Mountain State Hospice. The family would also like to express appreciation to everyone who took part in all the prayers and amazing care given to her as well as the family.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Mr.Milton Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Josh Atkins, Cory Atkins, Jimmy Raber, Zack Blevins, Trey Owens and Josh Holmes. The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
